Trade Benefits and Environmental Costs of GVCS: A Case Study of the BRICS

As the international trading system has developed with division of Global value Chains (GVCS), export trade Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) grown rapidly. The resulting growth carbon emissions drawn wide attention from community, necessitating comparison benefits environmental costs BRICS participation in GVCS. Based on Eora database, this paper constructs a decomposition framework for calculation value-added embodied carbon, based multi-region input-output (MRIO) model. paid by BRICS’ total exports 1990 to 2015 were measured imbalance was analyzed, along causes. results show that main originate their own countries, domestic content decreased while foreign increased.
